Ambode Commissions RCCG’s N200m Rehabilitation Centre

SUCCOUR has come the way of youths who suffer substance abuse with the commissioning of Enoch & Folu Adeboye Rehabilitation Centre at Araga, Epe, Lagos State last week.
The Centre is an initiative of the First Born Family of the Redeemed Christian Church of God which later metamorphosed into Christ Against Drug Abuse Ministry, CADAM. The project which has gulped over N200m was majorly funded by Pastor Enoch Adeboye and Pastor (Mrs) Folu Adeboye.
While unveiling the centre, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, assisted by top notch of the church including Mrs. Folu Adeboye who doubles as the matron of the home, lauded CADAM’s initiative noting that it will go a long way in complimenting efforts of the state government to eradicate crime in the society and make the state safe for the citizens.

Governor Ambode also promised to personally assist the Centre in its areas of needs while also advising parents to be vigilant of drug addiction signs and possible anti-social behaviours among their wards.
Positive transformation
Explaining the rationale for the Home which has produced numerous graduates who have made impact in various fields, Mrs. Adeboye said it will serve as a centre of transformation for youths who suffer from substance abuse and seeking new life. She praised the giant developmental strides of the state government especially in opening up rural areas, hoping that the centre and its environs will benefit from the state’s infrastructural development.
Mrs. Adeboye said that the centre which started its journey in 1991 has treated about 2000 beneficiaries with about 70 per cent of them living drug-free, independent and productive lives in various professions and vocations all over the world, adding, “today, we have both formal and informal relationships with about 12 Nigerian universities that send their students to us for the programme and readmit them to continue and complete their education upon our certification.”
Echoing Mrs Adeboye’s views, Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Centre, Pastor Brown Oyitso, appealed for government’s presence in the area, stressing that substance abuse has become a scourge in the society, and that the latest project is the church’s response through its corporate social responsibility platform to arrest the malaise.
The centre’s vision, according to him, is to make individuals, families and communities free from the scourge of drug abuse and addiction while the mission is to identify, combat and overcome the multiple cause and effects of drug abuse through the development of effective programs and services with the aim of providing absolute freedom for the multitude of affected individuals, their families and communities.
A beneficiary of the centre, Mr. Ilimezekhe Salvage from Rivers State, who spoke on behalf of others, expressed gratitude to God and founders of the home said God used the centre to save his life from drug abuse as he was addicted to cocaine, heroin, marijuana and other illicit substances. According to him, since he came across CADAM, his life has received positive transformation.
