Coach Gernot Rohr was beaming with smiles weekend after the Super Eagles pipped a resilient Zambian side 1-0 at the Godswill Akpabio stadium, becoming the first African nation to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
The Franco-German tactician had just landed his biggest scoop yet since turning coach many years ago and obviously basked in the euphoria of now becoming a coach to qualify for the biggest sporting event in world football.
Having previously coached Burkina Faso, Rohr, some would say, may not have achieved this landmark feat and speaking with reporters later, the former Bordeaux coach said he was proud of his new found status.
“I am extremely proud to be a World Cup qualifying coach and hope to be in Russia to compete for glory and not to make up the number”, Rohr said.
He expressed confidence in his team to put up a creditable outing that Nigerians will be proud of.
