Oba Badiru, whose coronation will be held today in his community, made the pledge while speaking with Vanguard ahead of his coronation saying that the development of the community was paramount to him.
He described his emergence as the new Elejigbo as an opportunity for him to work towards the development of Langbasa kingdom noting that with the experience he had gathered over the years while serving at the grassroot, he was sure God would help him succeed.
He said, I have been in a position (as a counsellor) where I managed community affairs and I have always worked towards the unity of the people irrespective of class, faith, or tribe as well as the development of a community. I will not rest on my oars to ensure peaceful co-existence and progress of the people of Langbasa; the development of the community is paramount to me. I pray that God Almighty gives me the wisdom to govern my people.
On his emergency as the Elejigbo, he said, “I did not lobby for the kingship and was not in the know that an uncle of mine had submitted my name as one of the candidates to the throne. I was later told that seven names had been pencilled down for the Elejigbo throne.
Eventually, it was revealed to me that I have been nominated by the Kajeroyejaiye Royal family to vie for the post of Elejigbo since the two eldest persons in the family who were qualified, were no more, hence, there were several appeals from family members before I agreed to come on board.
Journey to the throne. On April 25, 2017, the Governor of Lagos State, represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Honourable Musiliu Folami, eventually installed me as the Elejigbo of Langbasa (Kajeroyejaiye I).
Oba Badiru who had been involved in politics at the grassroot level was elected Councillor in 1999 to represent ward k-4 under Eti-Osa Local Government and in January 2015, the then governor of Lagos state, Babatunde Raji Fashola, appointed him as the Executive Secretary to Eti-Osa East LCDA, a position he held until June 9, 2016.
